Frequently Asked Questions |
| Player: How do you figure that reduced payouts can
cost a player 30-45 coins per hour? |
guru: A player familiar with video poker can play
as many as 300 hands an hour. At max bet this can equal 1500 coins.
On an average, when the player gives back 2-3 coins per hundred for
reduced payouts on a full house or flush, this can mean 2 x 15 or
30-45 coins per hour. |
| Player: Can the casinos alter the
programs on the machines? |
guru: Machines purchased from major
manufacturers contain a priority chip that is tamper proof. |
| Player: What happens when a casino wants to change
the kind of game on a machine? Can't they change the chip? |
guru: The Gaming Commission allows certain approved
chips to replace the installed chip from the manufacturer. However,
the replaced chip still must be authorized, so the player is getting
an honest game. |

| Player: Can the random number generator be set
to give good or bad hands or losing slot configurations? |
guru: All random number generators start with
a seed number (or numbers). They cannot be altererd to produce good
or bad hands. The random number generator pours out hexadecimal numbers,
not hands, but it does contribute to the card or slot symbol selection
processes. |
| Player: Do casinos set some poker machines to give
more royal flushes or 4 of a Kinds? |
guru: A casino with machines from major manufacturers
cannot tamper with the program. Legalized gambling has strict regulations
that are enforced by a Gaming Control Board. Under these regulations
the mathematical probability of a symbol or other element appearing
in a game outcome must be equal to the mathematical probability of
that symbol or element occurring in the live gambling game. Understanding
the card selection process will help the player realize why a machine
might run in streaks of good or bad cards. |
| Player: Many newer poker machines now select the
cards that the player should hold, so that the player merely has to
press the draw button. Should the player accept these selections? |
guru: These selections may be different from
our strategies which are designed to increase net winnings, reduce
net losses and win more jackpots. Differences are especially likely
on hands where the mathematical expectations are close. |
| Player: Do you have a "one strategy fits
all" for Video Poker games? |
guru: Unfortunately some players make the same
decisions regardless of the payout table or game. The strategies proposed
at this site are based on sound mathematical and statistical principles
using the payout tables for each game. These games are different
and so are the strategies. |

| Player: Most books on Video Poker say that you should
always wager max bet. Do you agree? |
guru: Yes. You can hit a Royal Flush or 4 Aces
with a wager that is less than the max bet, but it will not return
the jackpot amount advertised on the machine.

| Player: I see that most machines pay 25 coins for
a flush with max bet. Some pay 30 coins. Does it make a big difference? |
guru: Absolutely, yes! Consider the case where the
hand dealt is 4 cards to a flush with no high cards. If the machine pays
30 coins for a flush, then the player has the edge; however, if
the machine pays 25 coins, then the house has the edge. That's
a huge difference. |

| Player: What is my chance of hitting
4 Aces on any Video Draw Poker or Bonus Poker machine? |
guru: The chance of hitting 4 Aces is
the same for any 52 card Poker game. A player should get 4 Aces approximately
one every 5600 hands. A player should get a Bonus 4 of a Kind (2's, 3's,
or 4's) approximately one every 1850 hands. Overall, a player should get
any 4 of a Kind approximately one in every 430 hands. On the newer video
machines an average player will probably play at least 300 hands per hour.
Can you imagine how many hands can be played on Triple Play in one hour?
(Hint: 5 x 3 x 60) |
